Contents Analysis Of A Contents Page - LIIAR

Language:

The language on the contents page is shown in many different ways, this is done to make finding a specific article or page of interest easy.
Firstly the page has a title that states 'whats inside', this is usually at the front of a magazine and shows us a list of page numbers  incase we need to find anything inside such as a page of interst or an article that has had a teaser printed on the front cover.
Secondly the bottom image shows a group of people at student age who are smiling, this shows that they are happy and people reading the magazine may see this standing out and want to read more about this article to see why it is that they are so happy.
Moreover the fact that this image is captured in a school or college environment may reach out to people who arent enjoying being a student because it's showing that even though in college you can still have fun with friends.
Finally, the text on the contents page is bold and the sub-headings are all in block capitals, which in turn makes it easy for readers to find things with ease because everything is so large.

Institution

The Institution of this magazine is for people in the college institution and these are the people that have published this magazine, other institutions include the music institution, wildlife institution, health institution and so on.
Because there are lots on conventions related to college and there are images of students we instantly know that its institution for this particular magazine is the education institution.

Ideology

This magazine contents page will instantly draw the readers attention to the images on tthe right hand side of the page, they have been put there to make important or big articles stand out and suggest that the magazine will largely feature writing and issues related to these images.
Further more the images on the page make the reader, read on because they have seen the image on the contents page, but now want to read about to find out how that picture links in with the article written about it on what ever page.
from looking at this page we see that the magazines theme is on college, we know this because a lot of the subheadings for the articles are based on college issues for example, a subheading says 'fire thier enthusiasm' and another says 'codes of conduct' both of which are assosiated with the college environment.

Audience

The target audience for this magazine is primarily aimed at college students who will curently be taking A- Levels, we know this because of the sub-headings and subject matters that are being written about and discussed in this magazine, all of this further backs up the target audience.
Both of these are key things in suggesting who the magazine is aimed at, however there are other things such as the images that also give us more of an idea aswell this is because we now get a visual insight as to some of the kind of people involved in this magazine.
The contents page and the articles disscussed will change every month but even though this is so, there will always be issues and articles being written that suite the college student audience because otherwise it would'nt appeal to the student age group which is 16-18, but instead would appeal to a different age group.

Representation

The images used in the contents page have been put together to make the magazine appeal to its rightful target audience, for example on the magazine's contents page, images of students smiling have been put there diliberately, this is so that when students pick up the magazine and flick through they can see that the magazine relates to them directly.
Furthermore, because the image was captured in the college learning environment and the students are smiling and happy, it suggests to the other students and poeple reading the magazine that they are enjoying college life and makes them think to them selves that college and the work that comes with is isnt all that bad if people can learn, get a higher education and still have a social life and have fun at the same.
