The language on the front cover of this magazine is shown in many different ways, this is done to attract a specific target audience to the magazine.
The language on the front cover of this magazine is shown in many different ways, this is done to attract a specific target audience to the magazine.
Firstly the front cover has a Masthead that says 'COLLEGE', this shows us that the magazine is specifically aimed at college students who are undergoing A-Levels and it stands out so that it will catch the readers eye.
Secondly the main image has a medium-close up frame and is of a young girl of student age, this is used to attract the college student age group, also the fact that she is smiling suggests that she is enjoying college life. If students that are not enjoying college life see this they may pick up a copy and read it to find out how she got to be so happy.
Moreover the setting of the photo is in a green field with lots of sunshine, this gives the essence of freedom and happiness where as if the background was against a brick wall it would suggest that the girl was trapped and thats not what the image is trying to suggest.
Also the colours on the students T-shirt are bright and stand out, they match in with the masthead aswell which creates the link between 'COLLEGE' and the student making it more attractive to the target audience.
Thirdly the text on the magazine is bold and the headlines are all in block capitals, this is shown when is says 'SHE'S 15 AND PREGNANT'. This catches the eye of a potential readers and links with the Masthead because if this girl is 15 she would be going to college in a year or so and this is what makes students want to read on to find out more about the story.

The Institution of this magazine would be people in the college institution and these are the people that have published this magazine, other institutions include the music institution, wildlife institution, health institution and so on.
Because its called 'COLLEGE' we instantly know that its institution for this particular magazine is the education institution.
Moreover this college magazine features on one college in particular called 'SMU', we know this because the girl in the magazine is wearing a T-shirt saying 'I LOVE SMU', this also makes the college look good and the fact that the model is smiling stands out to potential readers within the magazines target audience and makes them want to read and look inside.

The genre of this magazine would fit in with my target audience because no matter what the topic of the magazine is, each month it will always relate to college students in some way or another, for example on this issue of 'COLLEGE' magazine, it talks about smoking and pregnancy, both of which are two topics that currently come up when talking about teenage students because more and more young adults ranging from 16-18 can relate to these subjects.
The front cover features a young girl which will in turn mainly target a male audience however because the front cover changes every time there is a new issue, the next front cover model may perhaps be a young male model which will attract mainly the female audience.

We know this because of the masthead that says 'COLLEGE' and we anticipate college with A-Levels, also the fact that there is young college girl student who features as the main image on the front cover of the magazine further backs up the target audience for this magazine.
