Double Page Spread Analysis Using - LIIAR

Language

The language on this double page spread shown in many different ways, this is done to give a certain effect on the reader or viewer of  the magazine.
Firstly the page has a title that states 'FLESH AND BONES', this is a common convention of a double page spread and usually helps to draw the reader in because they are short, catchy and usually sum up the article in a few words.
Secondly the main image is of the lead singer of Young Guns and the fact that this image has been taken with a plain grey wall in the background will impact on the mood of the reader it also suggests that the story behind the person will be one that is an unhappy and emotional to read.
Finally, the text on these pages are bold and  in block capitals, which in turn makes it easy for readers to  follow things with ease because everything is so large and made clear.

Institution

The institution for this magazine is Bauer Media, this company and its employees are the people that write and publish Kerrang! magazine. As well as this, they also produce many other magazines common to Britain such as FHM, Empire, More and Heat. They are a huge publishing company, that also runs Kerrang! radio and Kerrang! T.V on sky.
The fact that the model on the page has lyrics on his chest relates to the music institution which is what Kerrang! is based around, conventions like this are big give away's of a magazine.

Ideology

The ideology behind this double page spread is to show an article that has been written about the lead singer of a band called Young Guns, this is shown in the main image because he is stood there and we know he is in Young Guns because of to name in the top right hand corner.
The double page spread will instantly draw the readers attention to the main image in the centre of the page, this is because the image has deliberately been taken that way to give a certain effect on readers.

From looking at these pages we see that the magazines theme is on music, we know this because of the numerous lyrics which have been written and smudged all over his body all of which are associated with the musical environment and institution.

Audience

The target audience for this magazine is primarily aimed at metal and rock fans throughout Britain. We know this because of the conventions of the magazine and how they give clues as to who the genre is. From these features and conventions we get that the magazine features rock bands there for will target a rock audience. also the fact that there are lyrics written on the models chest further backs up the target audience, genre and institution  for this magazine.
Although the magazine's articles will change monthly, the fact that there is a famous band member who is the model on the front page and in the main article means that people will recognise that person as soon as they see the magazine. This will draw people in to pick up a copy of the magazine and to read it. Moreover if there was a model who wasn't related to the institution the magazine would lose buyers because that person wouldn't fit in with the desired target audience there for people wouldn't be able to relate to the magazine.

Representation

The image used on this page has been taken so that it represents the article that is about to begin on the double page spread and for its target audience, for example if people looked at the articles main image and it was of a person who isn't related to the actual article itself, they wouldn't know whether they where reading the right part of the magazine because they cant see an image related to it. All of the thinking towards the image has been done, this is shown when it says 'FLESH AND BONES' in the title which is further backed up because the model isn't wearing a top but instead is in bear flesh. Because the main article in this magazine is on Gustav Wood the lead singer of Young Guns, it gives the reader a reason to purchase the magazine because they either like that band or want to read about the stories and articles inside that have been written about him.
Moreover the fact that the photo was captured against a wall and the model isn't smiling, gives a trapped feeling towards the reader and makes them show emotion towards the image.
