Music Magazine Contents Page Analysis - LIIAR

Language:
The language on the contents page is shown in many different ways, this is done to make finding a specific article or page of interest easy.
Firstly the page has a title that states 'KERRANG! CONTENTS', this is usually at the front of a magazine and shows us a list of page numbers for when we need to find pages of interest or an article that we have seen that we might like to read.
Secondly the main image at the top shows a group of people who are probably are in a band and are  smiling, this suggests to us that they are happy and people may continue to read the magazine to find the article that features this 'smiling band'.
Moreover the fact that this image has been taken with a sunset in the background suggests that the story behind this band will be one that is based on a happy and enjoyable subject.
Finally, the text on the contents page is bold and the sub-headings are all in block capitals, which in turn makes it easy for readers to find things with ease because everything is so large.

Institution

The Institution of this magazine is for people in the music institution and these are the people that have published this magazine, other institutions include the education institution, wildlife institution, health institution and so on.
Because there are lots of conventions related to music such as competitions like 'WIN a guitar lesson with Ben', sub-headings like 'GIG guide' and images of bands, we instantly know that its institution for this particular magazine is the music institution.

Ideology

This magazine contents page will instantly draw the readers attention to the images on the left hand side of the page, they have been put there because they make important articles stand out and if there is an image there this sometimes help draw a reader in to read more because the people in the image have an effect on them in a positive way, for example if the people in the image appear happy people will read on to find out why.
From looking at this page we see that the magazines theme is on music, we know this because a lot of the subheadings for the articles are based on music issues for example, a subheading says 'THE ULTIMATE ROCK-STAR TEST' and another says 'LIVE REVIEWS' both of which are associated with the musical environment.

Audience

The target audience for this magazine is primarily aimed at people who are into the rock and metal music genre, we know this because of the sub-headings and subject matters that are being written about and discussed in this magazine, which further backs up the target audience.
All of these are key things which suggest who the magazine is aimed for, however there are other things such as the images that also give us more of an idea as well this is because we now get a visual insight as to some of the kind of people involved in this magazine and on this magazine there are a lot of young people involved.
The contents page and the articles discussed will change every month but even though this is so, there will always be issues and articles being written that suite the metal/rock genre because otherwise it wouldn't appeal to the musical target audience.

Representation

The images used in the contents page have been put together to make the magazine appeal to its rightful target audience which we already know is metal and rock fans, for example on the magazine's contents page, images of bands and individual band members smiling have been put there deliberately  this is so that when people decide to pick up the magazine they can see that the magazine relates to them directly and gives a positive image on the magazine.
Furthermore, because the image was captured in a calm and peaceful environment where there was a sunset occurring and the people in it are smiling, it suggests to the people reading the magazine that the band shown are happy in what they do, which is creating music, this could make potential readers read on and maybe even influence the young readers to learn a musical instrument.
