Language:
The language on the front cover of this magazine is shown in many different ways, this is done to attract a specific target audience to the magazine which in this case is music lovers.
Firstly the front cover has a Masthead that says 'KERRANG', this doesnt specifically show us who the magazine is aimed at, however because of the pictures of famous rockstars such as Ozzy Osbourne and numerous band names we gather who the target audience is.
Secondly the main image is taken in a medium-close up frame and is of a man who is in a band called 'Young Guns', we know this because of the Sub-heading that says this.
moreover because the heading is placed over the person himself and is in big bold writing, this stands out, this is used to attract fans and potential readers that are interested in the band or genre of music itself.
Also the fact that the man on the main image is quiet serious suggests that the story he is telling inside the magazine could be a serious matter that is personal to him. readers of the genre may pick up and buy a copy of this magazine because they may be able to relate to the story that one of thier idols has told.

Moreover the setting of the photo is against a plain brick wall, this could suggest that the story he is going to tell may leave him and the reader feeling a bit trapped and although this may seem like a bad idea, this and the pull quote that says "ive had to fight for everything" adds to the magazines overall effect.
Furthermore the model isnt wearing a T-shirt but instead has lyrics from his bands songs writtten on his chest, this could suggest that these lyrics link in with the story he is going to be talking about inside of the magazine.
Institution
The Institution of this magazine would be people who are into rock or metal music because that is what kerrang specifies in, also people that are in the music institution have published this magazine,
Because its called 'KERRANG' we can't instantly know what the institution for this particular magazine is, however the pictures, headlines and sub-heading make up for this because they are all related to the music scene.
Moreover the magazine heavily features on one band in particular called 'Young Guns', we know this because under the model on the main image there is a giant sub-heading that is larger than all of the rest that says 'YOUNG GUNS', this also makes the magazine stand out to readers who are specifically interested in this band or, if they have heard of them and want to know more they can do by reading the magazine.
Ideology:
The genre of this magazine as it always has been is Metal and Rock music fans, each month it will always relate to this genre in some way or another, for example on this issue of the magazine, it mainly features Young Guns, which are a band that fit into both the Rock and Metal genre because of their look and overall music sound.
The front cover features a young man which will in turn mainly target a female audience because he is wearing no top however, this isn't always true as a buyer who likes the band will possibly purchase the magazine too and because the front cover changes every time there is a new issue, the next front cover model may be a woman who is in a band which will then target more of a male audience.
Audience:
The target audience for this magazine is primarily aimed at metal and rock fans throughout Britain. We know this because of the conventions of the magazine and how they give clues as to who the genre is, for example it says "Brit rocks new hero" from this we get that the magazine features rock bands there for will target a rock audience. also the fact that there are lyrics written on the models chest further backs up the target audience, genre and institution for this magazine.
Although the magazine front cover image will change monthly, the fact that there is a famous band member who is the model on the front page means that people will recognise that person as soon as they see the magazine. This will draw people in to pick up a copy of the magazine and to read it. Moreover if there was a model who wasn't related to the institution the magazine would lose buyers because that person wouldn't fit in with the desired target audience there for people wouldn't be able to relate to the magazine.
Representation
The image used on this magazine has carefully been selected out of lots of images so that it represents the magazine and its target audience, for example if people looked at the magazine's main image and it was of a person who isn't related to the audience they would think twice about buying the magazine because they cant relate to it. All of the thinking towards the image has been done, this is shown when it says 'I'VE HAD TO FIGHT FOR EVERYTHING' this is further backed up by the seriousness of the model. However, because the main image on this front cover is famous band member, it gives the reader a reason to purchase the magazine because they either like that band or want to read about the stories and articles inside.
Moreover the fact that the photo was captured against a wall and the model isn't smiling, gives a trapped feeling towards the reader and makes them show emotion towards the image.
