Audience feedback

Can you tell the genre of the magazine ?

5/6 people said that they could tell that it was a magazine of the Metal genre because of the mise-en-scene and the colour scheme that I decided to use.

Can you tell the audience of the magazine ?

All of the people asked said that they thought that the audience was teenagers from 14+ to young adults in their late 20's which is the target audience that I had anticipated.

Does it have all of the conventions of a music magazine ?

6/6 people said that it covered and used all of the media conventions for a music magazine however if they would change one thing it would be the font of the magazine. I took this into consideration and tried using other fonts however non of them looked aesthetically pleasing and as good as the one I already had so I just decided to enlarge the font that I had to make it stand out more.

Does it need any changes doing in order to make it better suited to the consumer ?

Some people said to use more images so I made sure that I  added a few more to make it look more like a magazines such as Kerrang! or RockSound that way I couldn't go wrong because they are such big selling magazines. another point i picked up on was using different images on each page which i have now done.

Does it appeal to the target audience and if so why ?

All of the people asked said that it does relate to the target audience because of the model, because he is young they can see this and think "hes my age so this must relate to me" which is the aim that I had hoped to achieve.

promoting my Product

when promoting my new and exciting Metal magazine that i called "MetalSound" i would deffinately do the most acvertising online. This is because the internet is a great example of globalisation and whithin months, with the right advertisement my product could go viral and be massive in countries all around the world becuase of the increase in free websites such as facebook to help me advertise the magazine.
i would perhaps create my very own website for MetalSound so that if people needed a place to catch up on the latest metal music information, they could easily go onto it and find what they need, also if they had any complaints or suggestions they could also make those at the click of a button with ease and this would help me make my product better and more aesthetically pleasing for the consumers of my magazine as it would be audience feedback.
If i where to do an online version of the magazine it would have have to be a taster becuase this way people will have a look online and if they like what they see, they will go out and buy the actual product whereas if I made MetalSound a completely free online magazine I would in turn lose a lot of money because when I asked people 70% said they would rather read an online magazine for free rather then go out to pay for one.

Article

It was over a year ago whenyoung 5 piece band, Strength In Solution graced fans with the news that they would be going into the studio at Sumerian records to record their full 12 song album that was set to be released in December 2012.

Little did we know that 6 months after the announcement, the young post-hard-coreband from Hull where on the verge of breaking up after a mass argument involving their record label, guitarist and backing vocalist Jacob Stone said “we where so close to the verge ofan internal band war literally,me and Sean (Lead Guitarist) had fallen out with the other three members over which route to take with the album and it was hell!

So here we are in January 2013 and where are they now ? WellMetalSoundhave had the honour of listening to their new album "Pulling Through" and we can honestly say that it was the best album we had ever heard for an up and coming band from such a small background, drummer Lee Fuller said “we’veworked our arses off and got through the bad times therefor we decided that we should call the album “Pulling Through” as it shows that nothing can stop us from perusing our dreams”.
From listening to the new album Metal can rate it 5/5 in all areas, the strong lyrics, aggressive breakdowns and melodic synth that is always present in the background definitely says to us that this album will be in the top 10 of the world metal musicchart within a week of it being released! Their first single “Hope For Tomorrow” is released on Monday the 18thof March shortly followed by an epic music video that is set to blow the minds of all fans that supportthe 5 piece band.

images taken

I took a lot of photos when doing this photo shoot including some of my self that I had done when I put the camera on a timer, however later on I realised that I was not aloud to feature on the front cover of my magazine so I went and took images of friends who could feature in it.
i got the models to wear T-shirts that looked like they belonged for example i got ford to wear a Suicide Silence T-shirt because they are a metal band and this mise-en-scene fits my chosen genre and then i got Joe to wear i top that had blood and fangs on it that said "creature of the night" which relates back to my genre indirectly because it isn't obvious however metal is known as a dark form of music which reflects in that T-shirt.

Demographics

Demographics are characteristics and statistical information that distinguish a group of people, these characteristics commonly include age, gender, ethnicity, occupation, interests and other things.
A business’ target demographic captures the group of people at which their products or services are aimed and in my case my music magazine will be aimed at people who listen to the Metal music genre therefor everything inside of the magazine will relate to them in some way, shape or form.

It is important to understand the Demographics of a magazine that will be for the 'Metal Genre' because the decisions and choices that I make when putting together and creating my magazine could in turn affect the consumption of the magazine, this is because if there are things in there such as other genres that dont relate to my target audience this could put them off the magazine because they arent buying it for that genre theyre buying it for the Metal genre and if its full of things not related to that music it may be classed as false advertisement.

For my Magazine I will be targeting both C2 skilled working class and C1 lower working class becuase I want my magazine to be available for anyone who wishes to purchase it. Although the magazine isnt priced really expensively, it will still deliver the same amount of quality as one of the high end magazines such as Rocksound becuase this will attract people to buy the product and word will spread of the quality and cheapness of the magazine which will in turn boost profits and hopefully my magazine will reach some of the more up market magazines.
It will be sold in all good supermarkets and food retail shops such as ASDA, Sainsburys, Tesco and Waitrose as well as smaller more local newsagents throughout the United Kingdom, also because of its price I will make it a weekly magazine with up to 70 pages in each issue much like other leading magazines such as Kerrang! this is so that I wont go over budget in making it and my product will hopefully be up there in the top 5 music magazines such as Kerrang!.

Reader Profile

For my reader profile I have discovered that all of the following images come under the genre that I am focusing on which is Metal Music, for example band logos such as 'Suicide Silence' are used a lot in the metal genre because they make each band unique to all of the other bands.
From doing my reader profile I have found out that there are many different things that make the metal genre unique in itself, things like tattoo's, ripped jeans and long hair on men are usually only found on people into this type of music just because that is the way it has always been even back to when bands like Iron Maiden where the main band of this genre.
Other examples of things related to the metal genre are make-up and smoking, artists such as Black Veil Brides wear black make-up even though they are men and smoke because it is deemed 'Rock And Roll' and this wouldn't be found in any other genre which further backs up my point that metal is individual and therefor its magazines should be as well.
When it comes to creating my magazine I will make sure to include these things and others that will appeal to my target audience, also when placing advertisements in there i will make sure that they are on relevant things such as 'Energy Drinks' like monster for example because this was another key thing that I found most bands of this genre drink.
If people of this genre are interested in things like this then I will make sure to involve everything and more that i have researched into my magazine because if I put artists from a genre such as R&B then the magazine would lose effectiveness.
